I’ve been down with illness and injury for the last week or so, barely getting any mileage in at all. It was good to be back on my normal route again - even if it was 42° with a 15+ mph wind! Inspired by all of you - especially those doing the Millinocket half today! You guys got me back out there - thank you!! 😀👏 #millinocketstrong - Gettysburg, PA, USA
Longest personal streak grows to 90 days at 6.49 miles/day.
Glad to see you back @gburstina!
      Pardon typo @GburgStina !

Millinocket half marathon! (Unofficial of course) but it was my best time yet at 1:54:00. And... to keep the tradition alive, I did a shooter of fireball at 6.2. I must say, having a crowd to cheer you on must be amazing for the psyche. I have yet to run an official race. Thanks 2020 for that, and I've only been running a year. But I got a couple horn toots along the way and some cheers on Penobscot Ave before the finish line. What a feeling. #millinocketstrong - Penobscot Ave, Millinocket, ME, USA
Rumor has it G.A. is in town...caahhh caahhh
Must have just missed you as Gary and I stood out there for two hours. Congrats
I ran early to avoid the rain. Left the parking lot at 7:27. I was hoping I would encounter a few others but it was just me at that time. Not even a single vehicle passed me on the golden road.@bbarr
Great report @BryanD Amazing you ran the Golden Road.
Congratulations @BryanD on the real-life Millinocket Half and the best time ever! The Fireball must have helped. You're entered into the special giveaway.
I'm not so sure the fireball helped...i am starting to wonder how in the past, people could continue running after a few shots of that. I prefer an empty stomach for such endeavors.@AOMM @4000footer

I realized I forgot my phone before I got to the starting line, so had to walk back to the house before I ran the Virtual Millinocket half marathon today on the Maine Marathon course. Felt like cheating because there isn't a giant hill at the start or the 6 mile hill on the golden road. Totally different vibe without the crowds, fireball water stops, the cocoa and cookie station, and no Gary Allen! Beautiful day until mile 10 when it got cold and the wind picked up. I obviously run faster with friends, and I missed mine terribly. I ran 4 min slower than when I ran the same course for the Maine Half Marathon in October. Great to see Ellen at the turnaround! I had to give myself a serious pep talk at mile 9. And how about that wind surfer on Back Cove?? My Dyad 10's will officially be retired after today... - Portland, ME, USA
       Longest personal run.
Congratulations @BlueberryRocker ! Even though nothing can match the real-life Millinocket Half, your virtual within a virtual, on another real-life course sure came close. Will you log any miles Dec. 5? If you type #millinocketstrong and/or #mdistrong in that day's racery log, you'll be entered into a giveaway for gift certificates that can come in handy for next year's Millinocket and/or MDI races.
There were a few brave souls doing the real course today. I was solo the entire trip but I did see others when I drove the loop. Also...rumor has G.A. is in town🤷🏼‍♂️ caahhh caahhh

This might be the last run at the Bait Hole depending on just how much snow we get on what would have been Millinocket Marathon weekend!
Great point @bbarr Can you imagine if the marathon did occur this weekend with all the snow flying?
If the snow isn't too high and you can get a run in Dec. 5 @bbarr and you type #millinocketstrong in your log, you'll be entered into a giveaway for gift certificates from New England Outdoor Center (where the post-Millinocket Ugly Sweater party is usually held), and Sawmill Bar and Grill (where the post-Millinocket virtual race meet-up is usually held). You could also type #mdistrong if you want to be entered into giveaway for gift certificates from Sidestreet Cafe (where the post-MDI party is usually held) and Atlantic Oceanside (where the MDI race expo is usually held). Richmond Half today. Looked different but beautiful trail and supportive runners, with their masks, and trying to keep as distanced as possible. Excited about my PR today—the ongoing saga of improvement. Grateful to have run this morning! #mdistrong #millinocketstrong
       Longest personal run.
Congratulations on the real-life half @DrI - and the PR!! #DrIStrong!
I see you had also logged some miles in the virtual race on Oct. 18, on what would have been the real-life MDI Marathon & Half. Shall I take it that your #mdistrong and #millinocketstrong here (as opposed to on your Oct. 18 entry) means that you would like to also be entered into the special drawing for gift certificates from Side Street Cafe and Atlantic Oceanside (the MDI race partners), as well as from Sawmill Bar and Grill and New England Outdoor Center (River Drivers Restaurant) in Millinocket?
@AOMM Haha! Thanks. Took a rest break and I’m back. And yes to using this run instead of the 18th. Have a great productive day. My polar watch notes that I was “productive” after the half😂

Will the new course challenge be linked here? I'm just now seeing this about the special teams...but I don't use the FB, anything I should know?

Hi @BryanD - I will be emailing everyone links re: new race, and also put link on this messageboard, so no need to be member of Facebook for that. Look forward to seeing you virtually in 2021! You made the 2-star club, according to preliminary tally. Will include a photo of the preliminary special teams in my racery log today, and tag you. When the final special team results are tallied after Dec. 31, can email everyone the results. If you want to add special team patches (iron-on) to the medal that's been sent in mail to you already, you can email me at acadiaonmymind@gmail.com and I can email you PayPal invoice (each small star is $1, so 2-star club would be $2). Merry Christmas!
Oops, I see you also completed at least 2 laps of the 240.1 mile course, making you also eligible for one of the following large special team patches @BryanD - moose, lobster, large sequinned star or felt bat. Also iron-on patches, and $5 each. Will enter my puny 0.5 miles as two entries today, so can upload both preliminary special team photos.
    • AOMM Dec 20, 2020
Just put up photos of the personalized medals with special team patches going out in the mail. If you made special teams but don't see your medal on the Facebook group page at www.facebook.com/groups/aca..., you have until tomorrow, Dec. 21, to let @AOMM know your order. Otherwise, if you receive the medal and later want to order the special team patches, they'll be sent for you to iron onto the medal yourself. Congratulations all! All medals will be shipping in the coming days, whether or not you want to add special team patches, and whether or not you completed the 240.1-mile course. Congratulations to all, as everyone is a winner by helping to raise funds for charity. Stay tuned for other news, about next virtual race starting Jan. 1, winners of gift giveaways and a new Acadia to Katahdin Virtual Racing Hall of Fame. Thanks everyone!

I thought I missed the deadline. I would like two lobsters and a crow.
@MA.ME.MD.Walker - as virtual race director, I get to extend deadlines! Two lobsters and a crow being added to your Maine STRONG medal, and will email you PayPal invoice. Congratulations on making special teams!
@MA.ME.MD.Walker - we're back-ordered on the lobster patches right now, although should be coming in right after Christmas. We have 1 lobster in stock right now - did you want to wait until the second lobster comes in, or did you want to substitute a moose or a large sequinned star? Sorry didn't check inventory before emailing you. Thanks!
@AOMM I will wait on the second lobster. I think the two red and one black will look awesome on the Maine Strong ribbon.
@MA.ME.MD.Walker - you got it! You have an artistic eye, not only for how special team patches will look, but also in choosing your racery log photos to share with fellow virtual racers!
@AOMM I somehow missed this message. Is it safe to assume it is too late to order special patches?
@RoughNess - not too late. As we've already shipped your medal with multiple moose ribbon, we could send you whichever special team patches you want to order and you can iron them onto the medal yourself; or you can order another medal and have us apply the patches on this end. Will email you your options, and you can let us know which way you want to go.

I would like the County Moose and a lobster and 2 small stars. Was not aware of 100 day streak for the crow patch. Am a crow member. Will shoot for that 100 days streak next year. Really enjoyed being part of this group. Wish all members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

You got it @rocnaddie - a moose for your second lap and a small star for your 25+ mile day, on the optional medal with lobster ribbon that you've ordered - I'll email you invoice via PayPal for the patches
@rocnaddie - as you also ordered the Maine STRONG medal, did you want your special team patches on that medal, rather than the medal with lobster ribbon? I think the patches would look nicer on the sparkly white ribbon of the Maine STRONG medal.
I would love a small star for each lap completed and a crow for my running streak
You got it @JohnT - six small stars and a Crow, on the optional Maine STRONG medal you've ordered - will email you invoice via PayPal for the patches

Thanks AOMM for letting me know about my check ins. I looked back at my Fitbit on Oct. 18 and remembered I didn't bother to record that day because it was only .8 of a mile up the road for a quick visit. I guess it was a walk though short. I'll add it. Thanks,
      3
In my email to you @jackrabbit67 this morning (Dec 17) I hadn't taken into consideration the fact that it looks like you will be backdating 0.8 mile for Oct. 18, to give you that long streak - so you can disregard my comment about the 1-star club!
I think I understand? I plan to walk at least 3 miles everyday as part of my Advent discipline and I can easily continue through the end of the month so will have no problem reaching the miles required. I deleted the info about ordering a medal. can you resend that info? thanks @AOMM
@jackrabbit67 - which medal would you like? The Maine STRONG medal ($18); I LOVE Friends of Acadia or I LOVE Millinocket Memorial Library medal ($12 each); or a medal with a lobster, multiple moose or neon moose ribbon ($10 each)? See this link for photos of the medal options: https://acadiaonmymind.com/... Once I know which medal you want, I'll email you a PayPal invoice.

Yes! Don’t know why those entries (Nov 23 and Dec 4) didn’t post (maybe because I tried to post with little reception!) but my streak actually goes back to January 1 2020–at least a mile everyday—more since joining Acadia to Katahdin! Thanks for the motivation to keep going all year!
      1
Amazing streak @BetteBoop - glad this virtual race is playing a small role! And looking forward to putting up the special team qualifications for everyone shortly.
    • AOMM Dec 5, 2020
Welcome to the two most recent virtual racers to join - @bbarr who has run every Millinocket race since the start, and @Thegarcia who knows @Fossil and is running the virtual Millinocket and MDI races. Welcome to all! in honor of the real-life Millinocket and Half, which was scheduled for today, Dec. 5, and real-life MDI Marathon and Half, which was to have been run Oct. 18, if you type #millinocketstrong and-or #mdistrong in your entry for Dec. 5, you'll be entered into a special gift giveaway to help support the following local businesses: Side Street Cafe (where the post-MDI party is usually held), Atlantic Oceanside (where the MDI race expo is usually held), New England Outdoor Center (where the post-Millinocket Ugly Sweater party is usually held), and Sawmill Bar and Grill (where the post-Millinocket virtual race meet-up is usually held). If you've already entered your miles for Dec. 5 or Oct. 18 before you saw this message up, you can go back to your entry and type it as a comment on your own post. #mainestrong

I'm new. How do I change my route? Thank you!
      1
Hi @ljp20j - sorry didn't see your message until now - welcome! The route is hard-coded, but if you are looking to land on a special spot, there's a "cheat sheet" of sorts that shows special mileage markers for special views. Here's the link to the Facebook post with that "cheat sheet" (which will be updated shortly): https://www.facebook.com/ph... You can also backdate mileage to Aug. 9, one day at a time, chronologically, and you will see your avatar move along the 26 peaks of Acadia, then over to the MDI Marathon route, then over to 8 more segments all across Maine, plus a special detour to the Boston Marathon route. Feel free to tag @AOMM if you have any questions.

@DrI - for some reason the tag didn't work the first time
@AOMM Ship Later please! I have a half coming up and how should I hashtag that? I saw FB page and sent request to join. A little late to the party!
@DrI - I approved your request to join FB group, so you can respond there, or here. The special hashtag #mdistrong and #millinocketstrong for special gift giveaways is only for miles logged on Oct. 18 or Dec. 5 (the dates of what would have been the real-life MDI and Millinocket Marathon and Half). If your real-life half is on a different day, you can hashtag whatever you want, but only miles on Oct. 18 or Dec. 5 qualify for the special giveaways. But there are other giveaways that everyone in the virtual race is eligible for, whether or not they hashtag.
      @AOMM Thanks for clarifying!

Hello, how do I discontinue getting multiple email messages from Racery—I need to turn this off. Thanks.
      1
Hi @Gumball there is an option at the bottom of each type of Racery email to unsubscribe. Also, I think after a while of not opening the daily reminders, I think they go away. Some emails are interesting to get, however. Like when someone tags you in a comment. Or when you get an emailed postcard for completing a segment, like the MDI Marathon. Feel free to tag @AOMM, the virtual race director. If you have any other questions. Thanks for joining the virtual race!

It did it again. Yesterday’s run said I was averaging 9.59 miles per run during my current streak. I ran 12.74 miles today and it says I am averaging 9.40 miles per run. That definitely does not add up.
      1
The preliminary answer I've gotten so far from Racery @JohnT is that the average is based on the last 7 days of activities, so older dates get lopped off. They're still checking with the programmers on the final answer, however. In the meanwhile, just learned today that they have added 2 new activities in the activity dropdown that might get at the elevation issue: trail running and hiking, listed alphabetically. It's an inexact science. For example, 1 hour of trail running converts to 6.20377 miles, and 1 hour of hiking converts to 4.1694 miles. At your pace, bet you probably run 12 miles an hour!
    • AOMM Sept 29, 2020
Hey everyone, Racery was able to make "Running/Walking" the default activity at the top of the activity conversion list, so you no longer have to scroll down alphabetically to find it. Also, Racery added some missing miles from the previous race for @mak321 and @LizInTheWoods so your streaks should be restored. And @JohnT - Racery is still looking into the average miles issue you'd noticed, and the elevation gain possibility. Will let you know once I find out more.
Elevation would be awesome. Any chance of a weights/strength training conversion?
@TomZot - no strength training, but for weight lifting, they convert 1 hour into 1.903 miles - vs. calisthenics, 1 hour equals 3.011 miles. Just looked up what might count as calisthenics, and it could range from jumping jacks to push ups, and all manner of bodyweight exercises. Guess that equates to more calories burned than lifting weights?
Actually on the Ap running/walking is even further down the list now!

Just posted this on the Facebook group page: www.facebook.com/groups/aca... Congratulations to the following Acadia to Katahdin Virtual racers who've recently completed the 240.1-mile virtual race course atop Katahdin: @GburgStina, logging her miles in the Gettysburg area @Angelion of WA, who just completed a 1,500-day streak yesterday @BryanD - who may have introduced you to Fireball if you've ever run Millinocket in real life @Shellperry of NJ, who just completed a 1,100-day streak yesterday @sueluv of NH, who has more than 55 days in a row under her belt @MA.ME.MD.Walker, who has a 163-day streak as of yesterday @KDW, who scaled Katahdin in real-life on the 1,001th day of her streak, and is up to Day 1,007 as of yesterday @RoughNess, who's got 43 days in a row as of yesterday @QueenMarsha, who's got 270 days in a row as of this morning @Kit415 of NH, who just virtually summited Katahdin yesterday @Czaplickian of VA, who's got 48 days in a row upon her virtual summit yesterday @Run100, who just backdated all her miles to Aug. 9, including the Bigfoot 200 on Acadia's trails (real all about it here: https://www.mdislander.com/...) @CountyRunner, who finished atop Katahdin virtually today, while at the same time completing his first-ever 13.1-miler Kudos to everyone! And if some of you didn't receive all 10 emailed digital postcards marking your completion of each segment, you can scroll down to the bottom of this blog post and download them: https://acadiaonmymind.com/... There was a technical glitch for the emailed postcards for the Boston Marathon segment, the Millinocket segment and the virtual marathon atop Katahdin, so any of you early finishers may not have received them - @JohnT @ZombieChop @BetteBoop @MissB @Coastwalker

I'll be posting all 10 digital postcards on the Facebook page soon, along with a "cheat sheet" of mileage markers for special Google Street Views. It's just a second lap of the race. It just keeps going, and going, and going... :-)
Hi @BryanD, here's the Facebook group page, www.facebook.com/groups/aca... - will be announcing your finish and other news there. Congratulations again!
Thank you for that. Unfortunately I'm one of the last remaining non-facebook peeps out there.@AOMM
I can understand why you don't want to be on Facebook @BryanD - so will be sure to post things on this messageboard as well. You saw the Google Streety View that you landed on when you finished atop Katahdin the first time, right?
No I actually did not see the street view of the top.... I've been there twice this summer though!@AOMM

Good to be on Isle au haut. paddled around it one afternoon/night in fog (we had compass and chart). Look forward to another time when we can see between the ears!
Hi @tconn just saw this message about memories of being on Isle au Haut for real. If you ever go back at low tide, you can actually walk from the main island over to Western Ear - not sure if that's possible over to Eastern Ear, as haven't hiked over to that side of the island yet - maybe next year!

Oh no @MsAnn - hope you feel better, and hope the recovery is swift! Are you unable to do any exercise? Not even swimming or biking? We do have those other activities in the dropdown menu now, but only if the doctor says it's OK for you to do.
    • JohnT Aug 31, 2020
Yesterday’s run said I averaged 9.61 miles per run. Today I ran over 10 miles and yet it says I’m averaging 9.31 miles. Glitch or correction?

    • EvelynSH Aug 23, 2020
Is it possible to make it so that when you log biking, you can actually say the exact number of miles that you did? So that there is an option to log minutes, or miles?
      2
Hi @EvelynSH - sorry didn't see this message until just now. I think the reason the conversion is minutes, rather than miles - bicyling 10 miles doesn't equate to running or walking 10 miles, so the conversion calculator tries to adjust for that by using minutes, whether it is vigorous bicycling or some easier pace.
    • AOMM Aug 23, 2020
@JohnT and @ZombieChop - barely had enough time to add a special red pindrop in the map, for the CITGO sign along the Boston Marathon course, before you both raced to the finish of this special segment! Put more details on the Facebook group page, www.facebook.com/groups/aca...
Put that CITGO sign just in the nick of time @JohnT as I see you are already in Millinocket!
    • BetteBoop Aug 17, 2020
I second JohnT’s request—have to remember to scroll all the way down to get to running/walking—plus makes sense if this is a “race” for running/walking be the number 1 activity listed? i
I've put the request through to Racery, so should be seeing update soon @BetteBoop and @JohnT
    • JohnT Aug 17, 2020
Is it possible to have running/walking be the default workout. I keep having to delete posts because I accidentally posted as biking. It’s not a big deal but it would be nice

    • AOMM Aug 13, 2020
Now that the votes are in, and other activities have been added - be sure to select the activity you are logging, and check the unit, before entering the data. For example, if you select running / walking, the units will default to miles. But if you select any other activity, the units may be minutes. Hope this isn't too confusing! Am putting up images of the activity screen and the conversions on the Facebook group page, for a mini tutorial. www.facebook.com/groups/aca...

Just added a poll, to see if folks want to add other activities other than running and walking, such as biking or swimming. Vote here: https://www.facebook.com/gr...
      6
Can we add tai chi or yoga or calisthenics??
@MoGo4Acadia - just added all 3, and everything is listed alphabetically. Just remember to select the activity from the dropdown menu next to the date, and verify the units, whether minutes, miles or hours.
Hi! Finally making it back to the land of the living after upheaving my life a month ago to move across the country and start teaching again.... finally found me a CrossFit box to start working out at again, and am wondering how I would log that? We usually spend about 10 minutes stretching/warming up, 10-15 minutes on a strength portion of our workout, and anywhere from 10-20 minutes in a cardio workout, with another 5ish minutes doing some extra core work. Back in VA CrossFit was only 45 minute classes, so the full hour is WOOO! It's a lot, but I'm enjoying being back. Wondering though, with the switch to other activities, how I would log this? Thanks!
Hi @OGKatie - can't remember if I answered your question about CrossFit and how to enter the activities. If not, let me know, and I can do so! We might have more snow after this Nor'easter than you have on the streets of Fairbanks. So, for the next race, am thinking of adding some miles in Alaska, perhaps right by Hoodoo Brewing and nearby Denali. Let me know if there are any other favorite sites or routes we should include in the next Acadia to Katahdin (via Alaska) Virtual Race!
Yes! You totally did in the FB group and I've been using those conversions to do all of my maths. Math is hard! I would be willing to bet that you all DEF have more snow than we do right now. Since that big dump about a month ago we've been pretty sparse. It's dark and cold up here but we've been largely without additional precipitation. It was -14 this am with some supposed windchills coming through later, but overall, really not too bad (so far.....ask me in a few more months!) I LOVE that you are willing to put in some Alaska miles. I will put on my thinking cap to see if there are some other great spots that might have some great views for you to put in your race. I have one or two in mind, but I'll reach out to folks who are a bit more seasoned than my 4 months in the AK and see what they say! Thanks for thinking of me over here on the left coast!
Good to hear you are surviving the Alaska darkness @OGKatie - but with your cheerfulness, I'm sure you brighten the Alaskan day! We got about a foot of snow in the Boston area, a little less up north. Might be enough for cross-country skiing tomorrow. There's a dropdown conversion for skiing, cross-country and also for snowshoeing, if you ever do either of those activities on the left coast - no math needed, as you just put in your minutes and the conversion calculator will do the trick!
    • mak321 Aug 11, 2020
@AOMM Thanks for asking! I forgot to record my 8/7 miles. I had 2 that day.
      3
Will let Racery know, and hopefully won't take too long for the streak to be restored @mak321 - will update the special teams number as well!
We are getting so advanced in our virtuality!
@MoGo4Acadia - not sure if this is an advancement, but going to add housework and yardwork conversion calculators, as those activities can be exerting.

Help raise funds for Acadia National Park and Millinocket, the gateway to Baxter State Park, home to Katahdin, Maine's highest mountain. And help support Mount Desert Island Marathon, a non-profit that along with so many other race organizers had to cancel real-life events this pandemic year.

Participate in the 2020 virtual edition of the Maine Sea to Summit series and earn a medal (or two or more) at the same time - including the new "Maine STRONG" medal made by the same company that makes the MDI Marathon and Boston Marathon finisher's medals!

Start by virtually climbing all 26 peaks of Acadia, move on to virtually run the Mount Desert Island Marathon and Half, then criss-cross the state, covering some or all of the real-life routes of such races as Bridge the Gap, Down East Sunrise Trail Relay and Millinocket Marathon and Half, before ending with a marathon up Katahdin.

Along the way, you'll get to virtually visit Isle au Haut and Schoodic, the more remote parts of Acadia National Park, stops along a Stephen King tour, and other scenic spots along the coast of Maine.

And in a special detour, you'll get to virtually run the route of the Boston Marathon, also cancelled this pandemic year, and the setting of the 17th annual New Years Boston Run slated for Jan. 1, 2021 (crowathletics.com/boston-new-years-run). (This virtual race is not officially affiliated with Boston Marathon or any of the other real-life races, other than as the virtual edition of the Maine Sea to Summit Series, co-sponsored by acadiaonmymind.com and runmdi.org.)

Wherever you are in the world, you can participate virtually by running or walking and logging your miles. Watch your avatar move along on a map from Acadia to Katahdin, jumping from segment to segment.

You have 145 days, until December 31, to complete the segments. To ensure you cross the finish line and to take into account any mileage rounding issues, be sure to log a few extra tenths of a mile. And if you opted in for special finisher's medal(s), they will be mailed beginning in mid-October, upon your completion.

Everyone is a winner, with final medals mailed soon after December 31, whether you completed the segments by then or not. Mileage from this race and future races will count toward cumulative totals, allowing you to reach special milestones and recognition. Details to be announced at acadiaonmymind.com/virtual-races

Special pricing for registrants in the real-life 2020 MDI and Millinocket Marathon and Half Marathon (even if cancelled). We will cross reference the real-life entrants' list and if runners don't appear then the virtual fee will be forfeited.

At least 5% of gross proceeds from the race go to help support Acadia National Park via the nonprofit Friends of Acadia; Millinocket via the nonprofit Our Katahdin and Millinocket Memorial Library; and MDI Marathon. Brought to you by acadiaonmymind.com and runmdi.org. We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:

    • We rely on the honor system... you don't have to use a device to prove your miles -- a good map suffices.

    • Please only backdate mileage to the start of this race, or Aug. 9.

    • No step counting, please use intentional miles.

    • Only walking or running miles please! (NOTE: miles on a racer’s personal log are for all races they are in, over all sports)

    • Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day -- don’t combine mileage from multiple days.

    • Miles submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
