Hope to see my encouraging friends on the Italy trip!
    • GoGoBootGirl Dec 31, 2020
So excited I’ve been able to get back to some exercises before the year end! I signed up for both the New Zealand and Italy race events! New Zealand for my intentional miles only and Italy for my intentional exercises since I’m doing loads of PT this year! Cannot wait for tomorrow to begin! I’m on team SaltySneks!
I'll see you in New Zealand tomorrow. I am a little confused about the mandatory uploads but I'm up for anything.
    • Lillie Dec 30, 2020
How do I sign up for Italy?
      2
Go to racery on your browser. I’m not sure you can do it through the app. I think you have to go to the website.
You have to join a team even if you are alone doing it! I started SaltySneks so I could join. It’s also so they can test team chats I guess!
    • GreenThumbs Dec 28, 2020
It’s been a fun year! Hope to see many of you in Italy next year. Happy new year! Congratulations on all you’ve accomplished in 2020. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 mailto:team@racery.com
I’ll be in Italy and New Zealand! 😄
    • Flea Dec 25, 2020
Way to go guys, We only have 6 more days. Let’s give’m a strong finish for 2020! This has been a blast 😁
Thank you everyone! It's been so fun and has definitely kept me moving.
    • ScrapperKaren Dec 20, 2020
Just saw the email about traveling around Italy next year!! I already joined the one that’s going to New Zealand though! Might I have to do both! Will I see any of you on the trails?
I signed up earlier tonight! Was glad to see it. :)
      Great!!
@scrapperkaren I'm doing New Zealand. But had I known about Italy...this Ireland group could have our own "Eat Pray Love" thing with 3 countries that start with "I." Instead of Italy, India, Indonesia, we could have Ireland (2020), Italy (2021), & Iceland! Yes, Iceland 2022!
I signed up for the Italian “race”
      Enjoy your visit to Italy!!
I think I had a coupon for the Ireland race last year. Has anyone seen one for Italy? I don’t think I’ll make my 500 this year, but I’m interested in trying again next year!
Haven’t seen any coupons You should definitely go for it again. It’s so good to have a goal!
There’s a code to enter - I think the email said for the first 21 people. Put challengeyear in the coupon area and see if it still works. :) Hope it does!
I registered for Italy and started a team called Coastal Crew. You’re all invited to join me there.
I’m registered for the Italy race.
Hey Racery Ireland friends! I was already doing New Zealand but decided to go for Italy too! I used the challengeyear code and yeah it worked great for me! I also joined the coastal crew team ! there’s room for three more if any of you would like to join!
    • Fujimotor Dec 10, 2020
Had a partial knee replacement on August 14.2020. On October we for eval. for swelling. Vertical fracture next to replacement. Surgery November 03, 2020. No weight bearing on left leg. :( Back to work but with a walker.
      4
@Fujimotor I am so sorry! That sounds so difficult. I send wishes for healing.
So frustrating for you! Did they say what they think caused the fracture? (I am trying so hard to avoid a knee replacement.) What will they have to do in the next surgery? Hope it goes well!
Oh, I see - you already had it. 😊 what did they do? Hope you’re healing well!
      Great progress!
    • TNvic Dec 5, 2020
Any info yet on the next one? I haven’t seen an email.
      1
@TNvic I just emailed Henry at Racery. Told him people were asking...
    • JillybeanB Nov 27, 2020
Will there be a race next year? I hope so. So much thanks to team Racery for giving us incentive to get through this crazy year and stay active. It’s been a great group and I love seeing everyone’s pics. ❤️
      Forgot to tag team@racery.com
Yes, I feel so lucky to be in this group especially this year. 🏃‍♀️🚶‍♀️🐕❤
I hope so!! It helps keep me sane and it looks as if 2021 will be the same! I would love something with beautiful scenery! I have to use this as my vacation photos 🤣🤣🤣
Can you tell us where you signed up for the New Zealand thing?
I went ahead and signed up for the RTI year long racery event through New Zealand 🇳🇿 I liked the medal it comes with!!
Wait- what’s that one? I can’t find it
I am doing the Boston to Bar Harbor virtual event through RunSignup...it started in August but I started it last week. I have to do 27 miles/week average in order to finish the course by the end in May 2021. I would love a race covering all of 2021 with some folks from our Ireland event. I can't find the New Zealand race either!
Here is the link to the year round New Zealand event: https://racery.com/r/fans-r...
Thank you SO MUCH! I don’t know why I couldn’t find it. I get paid Friday, I’ll sign up then!
@Barbarita Thank you SO MUCH! LOL we are our own Racery IT support, or something. I'll sign up too this Friday! So glad to continue with some people from here.
Is anyone also doing the Italy one? Got the email today
I signed up - was able to get the discount late this afternoon. Was glad to see the email!
    • GoGoBootGirl Nov 27, 2020
I finally got caught up on my daily activities! The last one are tough ones... the steps are me operating a wheelchair. I have such respect at the hard work it is getting around in them now. I’m only in one temporary and let me tell you it’s hard work!
@GoGoBootGirl Yes, it is so hard. I am a nurse and have often worked with people learning to use one. I walked with a cane after stress fractures and that was tough too. Plus people treat you so differently.
    • GoGoBootGirl Nov 22, 2020
I so miss walking! I had tendon replacement surgery for my ankle and I miss being able to move around and do anything! I have a few older workouts I need to still add but it makes me sad 😢 Hope you guys are having fun! I cannot wait until January when I can start walking again with a boot at least!
That sucks! Hang in there, you’ll be back! ❤️
    • MidwifeTCoffee Nov 14, 2020
Is anyone signed up for a year-long Racery event next year? I'd love to run with all of you again. I wish there were a race in SE Africa. Maybe Zambia. I looked; there isn't.
I would love to! It helped me so much until I had surgery!
@GoGoBootGirl Thanks! I'll post any details I find out here in this thread. Speedy recovery to you.
Psyched for Italy next year. Hope to see many of you there. I started a team called Coastal Crew.
    • MissR+Oswald Oct 29, 2020
Well...I have 209.8 miles to go and only 64 days to do it. The odds are NOT in my favor but I’m still going to try! Hope everyone is doing well!
You can do it!! Any more miles you get are great!!
Yes you can, you got this! Good Luck
@MissR+Oswald You can give it your best shot! Just keep going.
Take baby steps! Don’t forget to add all your workouts! This includes you weight workouts and yoga sessions! It all adds up!
    • Flea Oct 26, 2020
Guys I did 12.6 miles on my bike this morning in an hour & it would not give me my miles that’s why I entered it 3 times. But I am done, woohoo!!! Going to keep logging miles until December. So glad I did this will be ready for 2021!
    • TNvic Sept 25, 2020
I’m having trouble logging my miles today. :( It’s been giving me some trouble for the past few days, but worked after multiple tries. Today I can’t get it to work. I turned my phone off and on which didn’t help. Then I went out to the race page to do it. It still didn’t work but it gave me a message that it was taking too long but had been saved and it would be processed. ?? Anyone else? Seems like something has changed and needs fixing?
      2
@TNvic Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I was having a terrible time right around then, too. Glad it's done...
      Right, much better now! 😀
    • MidwifeTCoffee Sept 22, 2020
Oh my goodness! I landed right at Lough Beagh (County Donegal, in Glenveagh Nat'l Park) and the scenery is spectacular! If you click on my red marker for 9-22 you'll see what I mean.

Part of me is glad BOTF is done because my calves hate me 🤣🤣🤣
      @GoGoBootGirl Congrats! What is BOTF?
    • MidwifeTCoffee Aug 25, 2020
@RaceryHenry Now that I'm in Northern Ireland for the 2nd time, I'd sure love to see the counties in Northern Ireland indicated the way they are in Ireland. There are 6 counties in Northern Ireland and 26 counties in Ireland. In this race, for the Northern Ireland portion, it shows only "Northern Ireland." When we're in Ireland, it shows the county and the town, etc.

People who are on their 2nd or further loop: do you still get postcards?
      1
I haven’t gotten any on the second loop.

@MsAnn Hope you are doing well; thanks for the encouragement. From Flash51 in NC.

I haven’t been doing much to gain miles and I was a bit nervous to log in and see how far everyone had gone. But I am so happy and impressed by everyone! Keep up the fantastic work! And a hug congrats to everyone that has finished (more than once in a few cases)! Hope everyone is staying safe!👏🏼
@MissR+Oswald I'm so glad to see you back! My grandmother and grandfather lived near Martinez (in Clyde) and my mom did a lot of work in Martinez. I was there in March!
    • Flash51 May 30, 2020
My grandparents lived in Ann Arbor so I visited every year ( we lived in Upstate New York). The U of M campus is big; my grandfather worked there as a professor. Find memories.

      @midwifetcoffer
      4
My grandfather taught English and then became assistant to the president of the university. I am a registered nurse (retired now) and worked in pediatric orthopedics at Univ of NC in Chapel Hill. Are you a practicing midwife?
@Flash51 Thanks for your info. Which UM president did your grandfather work with? My FIL is 95 and this is probably even before his time, but who knows? Yes, I am a practicing midwife (nurse-midwife) but currently working mainly on legislative efforts for midwives and nurses. Glad there's another nurse in the race! I worked in NICU and used to "float" to pediatrics.
@MidwifeTCoffee My grandfather( born in 1897) worked with Harlan Hatcher at U of M. Asked my sister for that information ; hence the slow response. Hope you are well! I worked in peds Ortho most of my career in nursing.
@Flash51 I love hearing what other nurses do and have done. Thanks! And your grandfather worked with Harlan Hatcher at U of M...wow! he established the Flint campus, where I taught maternity nursing clinicals (just for 2 years).
    • Flash51 May 23, 2020
@MidwifeTCoffee Thanks! I think you may have also finished. If so, congratulations too!
      1
@Flash51 I really like the connections this virtual race gives us. What did your grandfather teach at the University of Michigan? I agree that the campus is big. It's a great place to walk/run.
    • Flash51 Apr 30, 2020
I am tired of walking the same trails and neighborhood secondary to the pandemic. Guess I'll have to try my bicycle. Tennis is allowed once again- yay! Thanks for all the "likes" from folks. And who is Robin Vick who always is first? I'm impressed!
@Flash51 I can hardly wait to bike. I had toe surgery in Nov. and I'm not quite there yet.
@MidwifeTCoffee My husband and I did bicycle once and it took us a looong time to go 6 miles. ‘‘Twas pretty hilly in the piedmont In NC. Hope you are able to get on your bike soon!
@Flash51 Thanks! I just know I'll be on my bike some time this year...grateful I'm able to run a little bit and lots of walking. :)
    • JillybeanB Apr 7, 2020
I tried logging my miles this morning and received an error message. I selected running/walking, put in 3.1 miles, and it says “error measurement not found for that activity” ??
      2
It worked on the website, just not the app
@JillybeanB Thanks for the info. If were you logging on an iPhone, this is likely an old app build. Recommend you update. If not, please write team@racery.com with more details!
    • Mammallama Mar 31, 2020
Hello Fellow Racery Racers! I am wondering how everyone is doing out there while we deal with this pandemic. How is your life different now? How is it impacting your fitness routines? What are your struggles and wins? (getting our of bed counts as a win, btw)
      2
@Mammallama so glad you asked. And I imagine the answer for all of us is different even today than it was when you posted this. I am winning every day by getting out of bed...
@MidwifeTCoffee you are so right! I am just beginning to find a rythm for this crazy "work from home, social distancing" thing. Still getting out of bed. Win!
    • GoGoBootGirl Mar 27, 2020
This year I’ve changed my type of exercise recording. If I’m working that day (I work retail) I’m too tired to do anything but take a hot bath and sleep so I’m using my step counts on days off I use intentional exercises! I’m just pulling internet orders but my store was not set up that way! It’s exhausting but I keep telling myself I’m paying the wages of my hourly staff with each order I pull!
Hang in there! You are doing great! 🌟🌟
I'm checking out our message board today because I was curious to see how my fellow Racery runners are dealing with COVID 19. I like how you're shaping your thinking, that while the new work setting is drudgery, your efforts are keeping others employed. Thank you for your efforts! Also, good for you for figuring out how to keep going with logging exercise in this brave new world we're in!
    • MidwifeTCoffee Mar 19, 2020
Around mile 188 is Erica's Fairy Forest. You won't see it from the road, but it's there on the map. It's very moving to go on the website and read about Erica.
    • SandraD Mar 4, 2020
Is there away to see my logs? it has been a crazy month so I logged in my miles today after finishing everything I just notice the activity changes, I thought I was logging in miles and think I logged in minutes of activity.
      4
Click on the "Athletes" tab, then click yourself and you will see a list of your activity.
@Fitness4Life Okay so I'v been doing it wrong, is there a way to correct it? or do I have to re enter everything?
I would contact Racery for help. They might be able to change them all for you on the back end. Otherwise, I think that you will h ave to delete them all and reenter them.
Hi Sandra! I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Unfortunately, you do need to delete them and reenter. Henry@racery
    • MidwifeTCoffee Mar 1, 2020
Here we are in our 3rd month now! Happy March.
      1
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here we are in Ireland, right?
    • JeB Feb 20, 2020
What's the deal with Cabra Castle - it's shown as Mile 186.2 and I wanted to stop there but I'm at 174.2 and I've passed it!
      4
I'm wondering about Cabra Castle too.
I looked further into Cabra Castle. It's now Cabra Castle Hotel. It's not directly on our route; it's nearby (in County Cavan on R179, whereas we're on R162). So we for sure won't happen upon it in google streetview
      Sadly, yes.
      Thanks for the followup. :-)
    • MidwifeTCoffee Feb 12, 2020
Well, I thought I knew a bit about Ireland, but I'd never heard of County Westmeath, where I now find myself. Anyone else never been to Ireland?
      2
With my daughter about 4 years ago. Great place, really enjoyed it based out of Dublin and took tours all around. Amazing trip, green green green!!
      @PaulW Thanks...sounds like a great trip. :)

@RaceryKayla each time I run "CCleaner" (clearing out cookies, etc.) Racery makes me ask for a new login verification. I don't necessarily mind but wanted to "run" this by you.
      2
Morning!! Yes, that's totally normal behavior after you clear your cookies :) For easy login, I 100% recommend using your passcode instead of email verification! The passcode can be used to log in on ANY device. If you aren't sure what your code is, you can reset it via your settings -- and then change at any time if you have a combination of numbers that are super easy for you to remember :)!!
      @RaceryKayla I'll try that! Thanks!
    • kaylaaanicoleee Jan 23, 2020
Hi lovely racers!!! I wanted to let you know that after some FANTASTIC feedback, I've added in the mileage marker information to each pindrop on the map so that you can try to see a castle Google Street View! Keep in mind that we can't control what Google shows, but I hope this gives you better chance of seeing a castle along the way :) Mile marker information here as well: Mile 0 (at the starting line) Mile 12.8 Mile 51 Mile 110.3 Mile 186.2 Mile 223.5 Mile 304.7 Mile 488.3 Mile 498.4
On the map I've passed Cabra Castle (186.2) but I'm only at about 174 :(
    • GP34 Jan 19, 2020
What mile marker is the first castle?
      9
      Mile 51 :)!!!
Wait, I lied! There's actually one at the starting line -- and then one at mile 12.8. SO, the THIRD castle is mile 51.
I've researched the castles we've been to so far. So interesting to see them offering modern entertainment. I guess you have to earn money somehow.
@MidwifeTCoffee I could have sworn I read Racery was supposed to send epostcards for each castle.
@GP34 postcards aren't set up to be at each castle -- they are placed randomly throughout the course and in subsequent loops as a little surprise :)
@RaceryKayla got it. I just figured I'd get one by now
It actually looks like you should've based on your progress. Can you send me an email so we can figure it out? I can see that one was sent on my end and want to make sure you get it :)! kayla@racery.com
@GP34 yay! You get a postcard. I love my one so far.
      @RaceryKayla email sent

I’m so sad I have both a viral infection and strep throat!! I’m so sick of being not able to do anything!! Good luck my runners on escaping colds this year! I’m looking forward to when I’m released to at least go walking again!!
      Get well soon!
I feel this so much as I've been nursing an injury which is keeping me from doing all the things I want!! Just rest and get better so you can crush all of your goals the rest of the year <3
That’s exactly where I was last fall. Take care and I hope you feel better soon! I know it’s frustrating. Hang in there!

What are everyone's goals non-weight related goals this year? Goals can be physical and/or mental! For example, my physical goals are to build more bicep strength and work on my weighted squat form. My goal for my mental health is to get sunlight/be outside for at least 30 minutes a day (I know that sounds easy peasy but I work from home and it can be a challenge!)
I recently joined a yoga studio and I hope to get much better at it over this year by attending 2 to 3 sessions per week. Mental health? I have two daughters getting married this year! So survive and enjoy is my plan!
I want to get off blood pressure and diabetes medicines.
I have gone through a lot of work changes/stress in the past few months. I did a Racery race to help keep me motivated and moving in a healthy way during that time. My goal for now is to get back to CrossFit (I had to give it up due to work scheduling) and to keep going with my running! I found that although I'm a really bad runner, I really enjoyed logging my miles.
I am focusing this year on proper form really! Like a reboot and working on my gait, pacing and overall running fitness concentrating also doing core exercises! I will be doing less races this year, except for my few local favorites.
I’m very late to this response (again like a 🐌) but I want to put my goals in to hopefully keep myself accountable. Physical goal: keep taking walks. Mental goal: let go of the hurt.
@BamBam I send you strength for meeting your goals.

Is anyone in the race in the southern hemisphere? Seems to me I saw S. Africa somewhere. Just asking as I walk (hopefully soon run) in the cold and snow.
      2
Hi - yes I am in Johannesburg! Swelteringly hot here so I am enjoying doing my exercise in the water. Good luck in the cold...brrr
@Karen49 Thanks! I guess we'll all be switching seasons (northern-southern hemispheres) by 31 December 2020.
    • Mammallama Jan 5, 2020
Is there a bib I can print out for this race?
Yes, it was in your welcome email :)! The email is titled "your bib and next steps...!"

How is everyone going to be active today? I'll personally be going to leg day bootcamp at noon!! Bring on the lunges and squats and weighted glute bridges!!!!!!
Slushy, icy conditions outside today so it's the treadmill for me. Leg day is tomorrow!

Taking control of my health after a mild heart attack a little over a year ago. Starting out slowly but intending to finish strong. Whatever your motivation, I hope you crush this with me :).
      yes! let's crush this.
      @MidwifeTCoffee Whoop Whoop!
Totally agree. I am 70 yrs old and will be taking it slowly and joyfully. Good luck team mate!
@Karen49 Thank you so much. Great luck to you as well!

So thankful for Racery for doing this again. Had a hard time motivating last year. Mostly walking for now, but hoping to get back to where I was eventually. Regardless, as long as I’m out and moving I’m happy!

So excited for this!!! I’ve been struggling on deciding my goals for 2020!!! The past 2 years I’ve done Half Marathons and now on Sunday my first Full Marathon... I’m trying a new training program and needed something to motivate me and keep track as I’m going now for form, speed and more of an overall body conditioning!!

I've been to Ireland twice - excited to virtually re-visit a country I love!
We've also made two wonderful trips to Ireland. I look forward to viewing more lovely Irish scenery.

Super excited for this challenge! I've loved the 2019 challenge I'm in -- so fun to see how far you can go :)

Start logging your activity on the race page on January 1st, 2020. Watch your own progress on the map of Ireland! Catch a Google Street View of your current spot in Ireland's beautiful terrain, then cheer on your real fellow racers with comments on their posts! Share your bling on social media or print it for the office bulletin board! Complete your first loop -- then keep going to see how many loops you can complete before you ring in the New Year in 2021!

We've got participants from all over the world, so to keep everyone on the same page, we suggest these guidelines:

    1. We believe in the honor system. You don't have to use a device to prove your miles -- a good map suffices if you’re logging actual miles.

    2. LOTS of intentional activity -- dancing, swimming, yoga-ing, and many more -- can be converted to miles. (See full list here .) Note: All conversions are based on a translation of steps into hour/mile. For example, an hour of moderate cycling will register as 4.83 miles on the route, while the same period of breaststroke will register as 5.14 miles. If you use a step counter while you are intentionally walking or running, just enter those as steps and we’ll convert them too!

    3. If you finish the 500-mile route early (an average of 42 miles per month), keep logging to become an Ultramarathoner! An Ultra leaderboard appears below the marathon leaderboard. Keep that competition alive right up to 12/31!)

    4. Only mileage added before the challenge officially closes on Monday, December 31st, 2020 at 23:59:59 EST will count in the leaderboards. Please note that the race runs on Eastern Standard Time.

    5. Only intentional miles please!

    6. Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day -- don't combine mileage from multiple days.

    5. Last but not least, Racery is more fun if you log activities as part of a group, comparing progress with friends and colleagues. With thousands of people participating in this year’s event joining a group can make a big difference. Go to the Athletes tab , click the group you’d like to join, and select “race with this group.” (If you don’t see a group you want to join, add a new group tag to your bio and invite others to do the same -- read this blog post about creating a new group that others can jump into!)

    HAVE FUN!
