Dear Friends, I was unable to continue the present race as we have in the past. So this will be the last entry. It has been a joy reading and moving around the world together. Bless you in 2018 and moving on as you continue this blessed habit of reading God's word daily. Love and Courage to each of you, Steve

Well done Team! Hope to have another Trek ready to go by January 1. Have a blessed Christmas HolyDay Season. (Our) delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law (we) meditate day and night. (We are) like a tree(s) planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that (we) does, (we) prosper. Psalm 1:2-3 (adapted for the plural with parentheses)
Thanks, @Steverino, and you as well, sir! Really glad you can continue setting up and sponsoring these treks!

Is there going to be another race?
Yes, Lord willing. We will begin on January 1.
@Steverino How will we join it? Do you send out an invite to all previous reader/racers? I participated in the 1st one but missed joining the 2nd for a few weeks before I stumbled upon it.
See the post above. Unfortunately this is the end of the race :-(

I'm taking my EA exam right now and would appreciate your prayers. I have taken the first two parts earlier in November and passed. I have the 3rd & final part scheduled for tomorrow morning. I’m not feeling very confident for this part of the exam. I took a practice test last night and got 79% on it... Passing score is 70%. The exam prep material is known (by my past experience and others’) to be harder than the actual exam. However, I’m still not confident in my answer choices... Pray that God will give me clarity and give me the wisdom needed to interpret and understand the questions and answers. If I pass tomorrow, I will be an enrolled agent (EA) authorized to practice before the IRS (similar to a CPA, however, a CPA is limited to a certain state whereas an EA has no state boundaries).
Praying for you, @calebljenkins. Tough stuff but the Lord has your future, no matter what happens. I'm confident you'll do well.
Thanks for your prayers! I passed part 3 this morning and submitted my application today to be an Enrolled Agent to the IRS.
                    Congratulations Caleb! :)

We are on a family vacation in France and Spain. Exciting to pray for these countries while we are here, especially also because we passed through Spain just the other day on our race. Also praying for Haiti. Thanks for the info Caleb.

We are nearing the country of Haiti in our journey's. Pray for the people of this small country. Pray that they will be set free from the bondage of voodooism and pray that they will learn to continue trusting God. Also pray for the NGO's that are in Haiti, that they would discern the Lord's will in how he would like for them to help the people of Haiti without hurting them. The past 100 years has shown that the way the West has helped Haiti has actually hurt them and made them dependent on aid and killed their creativity and desire to provide for themselves.

Happy Reformation Day...500 years today since Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg. The Lord working thru him and others mean that we can actually have Bibles to read.

90% complete! Good reading, team :-)
Thank you Steve for these races. It has had such an impact on my time spent in the Word. I wonder how many chapters we have read altogether since the first race.
You are welcome :-) I forget how many years we have done this, but for this year and last year, we have gone around the world, which I think was 29,000 miles, then around SA and Africa, which was almost 48,000 which makes 77,000 each year. Thats a bunch of inspired words from God !! @Elizna
I have loved this and really don’t want it to end. Are we doing any more races? I hope so! But if not, maybe we could set up a Facebook group to keep logging “miles” and encouraging each other?
We wil finish soon, but will probably begin another race in January. Will see you next year :-) @Lexie
                    Yay!!! :D

On October 20 I completed the OT for the second time this year in addition to the whole bible once. To the best of my knowledge, this was my 40th time through scripture from Genesis to Revelation. So glad God helped me to make daily bible reading a habit in 1976.
I think I've been through the complete bible 7 times since I started reading daily in 2009.

I will be traveling down to Haiti at the end of September for a week and a half trip. I will be doing some teaching and accounting work with various ministries while I'm down in Haiti. I would appreciate your prayers as I continue to prepare for these presentations that the Lord would give me his message. Here is the primary ministry that I'm working with in Haiti: https://christianaidministr...
                    How did your trip go?
@HomeschoolDad Thanks for asking. I had a good trip and I believe that it was successful. I've been down to Haiti 6 times previously to help with this ministry primarily related to their accounting needs. I spent the first part of this trip doing the teaching on various subjects that I was given topics on along with a couple other teachers. Then I spent the second part of the trip working with the SALT program's accounting needs.
Glad things went well, @Calebjenkins! Haiti is a very dark place spiritually which seems to have been a major factor in bringing its society to be barely functional. I've only been ashore in Haiti once doing an international law enforcement support mission, many years ago now, and experienced a very little of what the country is like. Ministries like the one you support help bring the light of the Gospel to people who desperately need it. I think we need to pray more for the Lord to transform nations like Haiti. and the U.S. .which are in such desperate need of the Gospel.
@HomeschoolDad Haiti is a country I've come to love over the past 4 years on my past 7 trips. However, by my observation Haiti is a country that has been devastated by the lack of discernment of those who give aid without understanding the true root causes of poverty. And I believe that Haiti is a country that has much to teach us if we would just be willing to listen & learn. Most countries like Haiti do not need continual aid like most ministries provide. In situations of Critical Poverty (e.g. Earthquake, Tornado, Hurricane, etc.) we should provide aid to these developing countries. However in situations of Chronic Poverty (e.g. Generational, Long-term, Lack of Education, etc.) providing aid tells these individuals that they can't provide for themselves and creates a paternalistic society where they become dependent on us as the "parents" to provide for their needs. There is also a distinction between types of poverty. In the western culture, we see poverty as being a lack of material things (lack of food, clothing, water, money, housing, etc.), however, in under-developed countries, the materially poor see poverty as feelings of Shame, Inferiority, and Powerlessness. Sorry for my long post, I just feel that we need to re-interpret out ways of giving to those in chronic material poverty.
I think you have a good perspective, @calebljenkins. The old adage about giving a man a fish versus teaching the man to fish came to mind as I read your last. When missions from more prosperous nations show up, there must be a sense of superiority, as if having more somehow makes us better, smarter, etc. Jesus and His Apostles did not tell us to have that attitude toward others. If we are to bring the Gospel to those who are hurting while outside the faith or encouraging our hurting brothers and sisters from inside the faith, you seem to be rightly calling for a gentler approach such as we see advocated in Galatians 6, no matter the cause. May the light of the Gospel continue to shine and go out into the Darkness of every nation, where God's word will not return to Him void.

Our family just returned home from the NOAH Conference in Kentucky - it was awesome - truly uplifting! There is another one coming up in October - check it out at https://noahconference.org/ While we were there, we also had the joy of seeing the ARK Encounter and Creation Museum and would highly recommend it to your family and friends. The truth from God's Word is throughout every exhibit. :) To think that Noah was 500 years old and it took him 120 years to build what this team of men did in much less time. Noah was so faithful and obedient to our dear Heavenly Father and we should be too. May He bless each one of you and encourage your hearts as you continue to read and obey His Word each day.
I've been to the Ark encounter twice now. Very worthwhile trip. I highly recommend it to everyone. :)

Please pray for my family. Our 7th baby is due in 7 weeks, things are uncertain at my husband's job, my dad is toward the end of a long battle with cancer, and my only sister has decided that she is no longer a Christian, and has embraced a lesbian lifestyle. I need to start homeschooling again in the next week or so, and I feel totally overwhelmed and unequal to the task. Depression overtakes me and I feel helpless to fight it. Anyway, thanks for reading and praying.
                    praying !
I will pray for you! Blessings as you trust in King Jesus!
                    Praying for you!
Our family is praying for you!
Please remember to call on the Lord for help! He loves each one of you very much and wants to help you and your family. "The Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace." Psalm 29:11 Notice in this verse He says "will give" and "will bless" not "might give" or "might bless"? He always keeps His promises. :) Another great verse that has really helped our family during some very difficult times is Isaiah 41:10. Please read it when you have time. May the Prince of Peace comfort and encourage you through His precious Word. Resist the enemy's temptations to fear and despair and "he will flee from you." James 4:7
This is a time when you really have to trust in the Lord. You can only do so much so let God be part of your team. He will take care of your husband's job, your dad and your sister. He will also help you with homeschooling your children and your children. I'm so sorry about your dad, I lost mine to cancer years ago, your sister (the only thing you can do is pray for her.) God knows your husband needs a job so if you leave that to God, He'll come through. It will be tough but He'll see you through that. And congratulations on the upcoming arrival of you baby. You are truly blest. Read Proverbs 3: 5 &6 as many times as you need to. In trusting God, you will be putting away fears, worry and anxiety. Tell God you cannot get through this alone, as I said, He'll help you. God bless you and your family.

We are now leaving the beautiful green area called The Boland where we live. Lots of vineyards and fruit trees and green mountains. It is winter here now, but we have had very little rain. Cape Town and all the surrounding towns over a large area is on severe water restrictions. It is also very challenging for us in the farming community. Please pray with us for rain.
We are definitely praying! Thank you for sharing this with us.

We live close to Cape Town in South Africa, but my husband Dirk has a vine nursery at Noordoewer in Namibia. We are approaching Noordoewer on our trek. Namibia is a desert country, but from Noordoewer all along the Orange river are hectares upon hectares of table grape vineyards. When you drive along the road there is a sea of green on your one side and desert sand on the other side. It reminds me how we cannot live without the Living Water.
Thanks for this physical update of the area and the reminder of Christ, the Living Water

I haven't taken the time to switch from the map to satellite in quite some time. So this morning when I saw that we were in Windhoek, Namibia, I decided to take a closer look. It's fascinating, really. Zoom in - you can see the airport, botanical gardens, Pioneer Park, markets, German Embassy, streets names from all around the world, etc. And when you do, please take time to pray for the people there. May they come to know our dear Lord and Saviour.

You CAN read the Bible through in a year! Starting with @Steverino encouragement on 02/01/2017, it took me 140 days and I missed some days. For the last few months, the average amount of time spent reading was two hours per day. If you can only get one hour per day, then you still have plenty of time to finish in a year. I suppose a half hour per day will get you through complete in two years, which is still a good goal. With a fast pace, I got whole book context and the sequence of events and people became more clear. But, I sacrificed all stops for meditating or taking notes. I'll be going slow, now. Whatever plan you are using, JUST KEEP GOING :)
Thank you @HomeschoolDad Have a great summer in the word and the Lord :-)

First time ever reading through the book of Job in one sitting was interesting; no stopping to meditate in each chapter, but you get the whole story. It takes 2 hours minimum; three if you read slowly. You can always go back and investigate parts of Job's trial later. I may do that with Daniel when I get there. Have any of y'all done a straight read through other whole books of the Bible?
This is a great way to read Revelation. I was scanning the book rapidly for a project and all of a sudden it opened up for me. "Spoiler Alert"--we win!

Have you clicked to the google map picture in the top right corner of your entry? It gives a 360 degree view of where you are in the world, assuming the google maps car has traveled there. It's my favorite feature of doing this race, I'm always dissapointed when there isn't a view. Although lately all we've seen is the desert. :)

Hello everyone. We are very excited here in South Africa. Tomorrow 22 April we are having the biggest national prayer day in our history. It is being held on farms outside the city of Bloemfontein in the centre of South Africa. At this stage it is estimated that 1.7 million people will attend. It will be lead by Angus Buchan and is called It's Time. We are crying out to God to change our country. You are welcome to pray with us from 12 midday until 2pm when the meeting will take place. We are expectant !

Reading the different gospel accounts of Christ's last days on earth and enjoying the details by the disciples different stories and details they have recorded. If four of us witnessed the same scene how different would our versions be?
Point well made, and because all of Scripture is true, all four accounts fit within what actually happened and together tell the history.

Try to maintain a steady, daily pace. It doesn't have to be big numbers, but it helps link the books and chapters together. Consistency is the ever-elusive goal. If you lose it, then get back up: the race is always on!
