Team!! It's the last day to log miles and I have some super cool stats to share. As of right now, this group of 60 humans has gone a total of 1,960 miles! That's the equivalent of a 50k for each athlete. This was achieved with 629 activity logs. Now here's my challenge- can we get to 2,000 cumulative miles by midnight tonight??? That's just a little more than .6 miles more from each of us today. Let's finish this out STRONG!

I got my shirt today!!! I will have to take it with me this weekend as I head to Sequoia National Park for some camping and hiking. Question though... can I post pics of myself wearing that shirt on social media or are we still keeping things under wrap?
Thanks for asking. Please do not post anything on social media with the logo until registration goes live in a couple of weeks. However, yes take some pics because once registration does go live we will be asking everyone to share the scoop on social...and especially wearing your tank.
                    No problem

@Ketakata @Muslimah @ActiveBrandNYC YAY team 1, we did it! Anyone have any feedback to share??
I’m curious if there’s a way to set up team forums alongside the general message board. While the system works well for us now, the addition of potentially hundreds of other participants in the Fall event may potentially make it more difficult to search for a specific team’s posts. I also liked getting the relay standings email that *I think* went out on Wednesday and think it’d be good to send that out as a nightly update.
@Ketakata team messaging is something we are looking into. + next week we will be sending out a survey to collect all your recap notes 😍

I just read that civil rights lion John Lewis will make a final trip from Selma to Montgomery this Sunday. Despite not being able to actually travel through these towns and landmarks this past week, I can’t help but feel connected through the descriptive history lessons provided through this Primary Run (shoutout to Keisha!). Hopefully, this latest and last chapter of Representative Lewis’ life will be included in the September event.

We made it Sweet Auburn District in Atlanta. I was born in Atlanta and lived there for 5 years before moving to NC. Sweet Auburn is one my favorite areas of Atlanta. It’s where you could go to be immersed in all the culture there was offered. Soul food restaurants, shops, jazz bars. I absolutely loved it.
I was born in Atlanta too 💙

Congratulations Team 5! You all finished the race and moving into a new category! I really appreciate the ability to convert all activity into miles! Even if I don’t go running, it counts! It’s so helpful for hectic schedules and for days when we don’t run but still workout!
Agreed! Having such a wide variety of activities that can count towards mileage will make the big relay more inclusive! I mean, COOKING counts! I have some friends who are really big into meal prepping for the week and hope I can get them on board! 😊
Yes! I agree. I love the variety and the inclusion that it will allow for the September event.

Hey, y’all. I enjoying the accountability of the group through the app but feel like I’m missing the emails. I have checked my junk folder and found nothing there either. I am not the most tech savvy so perhaps I missed something?
Oh no!! Maybe @ActiveBrandNYC can help problem-solve?
I need to play around with notifications because the history emails are getting lost in all the notification emails. It isn’t easy to tell the difference with a quick glance and so I have to go through each now that I know there are special history emails.

                  • JessieSchweeso Team 2 July 21, 2020
So I just noticed my team is passing Tuskegee - for anyone planning to make a trip to Alabama, make sure you stop in Tuskegee! The campus is beautiful and there is SO MUCH history there! I live about 25 mins from there and it’s about 30 from Montgomery on 85. We do a lot of outreach and HIV testing on campus there and it is by far our favorite place to go. The students there are amazing - they all so bright, thoughtful and engaged in their communities. So many of them come from all over the county, which is such a huge commitment given how isolated it kind of is, but we always leave there feeling better about the state of the world. We do HIV testing, presentations and one of the most incredible things about going there is how open students always are to having conversations about HIV in the south and how they do such an incredible job of encouraging their friends to get tested and educated. The stigma around HIV can often make these events difficult in other settings, but at TU it always seems like these students are ready to confront it head on. It’s so special and makes you feel better about what leadership is going to look like in the future. ❤️
                    Love this insight!!
There’s also the National Center for Bioethics in research on campus. I remember when I found out I was moving to Alabama and was going to be living so close to Tuskegee I was so nervous about it. Working in public health, I knew how difficult it would be to gain trust from the community there and that’s definitely still true, rightfully so. The main hospital for our region is where I work, and it’s not super close relatively speaking. Tuskegee is definitely medically underserved but hopefully that will change with time and with more pressure being put on the state to funnel more resources into the area. I’m currently on the board of a health equity project that is looking specially at Macon county, that will hopefully result in some change.
@JessieSchweeso I always love learning about the valuable work you do within the various communities. Tuskeegee has been on my bucket list.
For more info on the bioethics center - https://www.tuskegee.edu/ab...
So cool, Jessie! Thank you for doing this important work!

Team 4’s next upcoming marker is City of Jude Campsite 4! Unlike the previous campsites, the 36-acre plot of land marchers camped at was owned by the Catholic Church. It is the only land you can walk around on today. It was the final campsite and the only property offered for use by an organization. As a result, the church lost many of its long-time sponsors. Live entertainment was organized by Harry Bellefonte. Called the Stars for Freedom concert, Sammy Davis Jr., Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary, Tony Bennett, Frankie Laine, and Nina Simone performed.

Can I just say this is giving me so much motivation (physically and mentally)? I am reading about all the checkpoints we’ve passed so far and it is getting me even more amped to continue our fight for equal rights (and my boyfriend already thinks I’m “rabid” politically 🤣 - in a good way!)

As I ran and got my day started, I listened to two great podcasts. One was yesterday's episode of The Daily on the life and legacy of John Lewis. It was quite moving and while I have a good understanding of who he was and the incredibly important role he has played over the past many decades, I'm inspired to learn more about his life and the impact he made. We certainly lost a great person last week. On a lighter note, I also listened to the new episode of Work, Play, Love! Always fun to hear @fleshman and Jesse in my ears on the run!
I listened to WPL this morning too on my easy miles! Laughed out loud at the helicopter **** story! 🤣🤣🤣
                    OMG I know
I listened to that Daily episode as well. Got quite emotional. ❤️
                    @Fleshman yes, same.

I'm catching up on reviewing the pinpoints around Montgomery and enjoying the rich history there. I'm definitely adding the Freedom Rides Museum to my must visit list.

Hmmm not sure I received the Racery email with details on sites. Did everyone get this? I’ll check spam.
I got it. The email came from the-primary-run@racery.com
I got one today but not yesterday.
I don’t see it either...I wonder if our team hasn’t made it to the milestone yet that triggers an email? Let’s see if we get it today
Never mind, we have passed several checkpoints so there goes that theory
There was a glitch with the first milestone email yesterday but you should have gotten it this morning. Emails are sent once your team passes touch points we have selected so stay tuned for more as you travel along the course.
@CarolynG hmmm- still don't see any emails but notification emails - no milestone email yet.
@CourtneyC Not sure why you didn't get the first one, (thanks for the heads up) but just double checked and you should be getting one once your team passes mile 51. That should happen sometime this morning for your team.
I got a milestone e-mail today. So we’ll written an interesting! Links to additional resources and music. Very well done. I could do without all the e-mail notifications about the likes. Need to figure out how to disable those...
@MatyMataTropica you can opt out of them! At the very bottom of a notification email there is an option to opt out of "like notification emails"
I didn’t get an email either. I only knew because I looked at the race map.
                    I got one!

I have a rest day today, although I’m working a 12 hour shift in the pharmacy so I’m sure I’ll be putting in miles. I hope y’all have a great day out there!

Morning, we had a great start yesterday. I can say it’s nice to be doing something as a group. I’m taking a break from the sun today so no running for me today but I’m planning on some yoga later.

As we move through Alabama, everyone say hello to my birthplace, Montgomery! Not far from Ashley’s hometown!
                  • AshleySF Team 5 July 20, 2020
I thought the Racery emails I received today about the important civil rights moments on our journey were really well done and a nice feature for this platform...I look forward to seeing more of these along our way! Checking out the overall map to see our progress is also so very cool for this native Alabamian. Look to the left as you run north of Montgomery, and you’ll see my little hometown where I spent the first 17 years of my life....Wetumpka, AL! Our town was first the site of a Creek Indian settlement, and its name comes from the Creek “we-wa-tumpkis,” or “rumbling waters.” Fun fact: about 83 million years ago, an asteroid hit near where the city now stands. 🦖💥 Energy released by the impact is estimated to have been roughly 175,000 times greater than the nuclear detonation over Hiroshima in 1945. It decimated all natural life for hundreds of miles from the 4.7 mile wide impact crater, which is still visible today! ☄️
@ashley thanks for sharing that history of your hometown. I love learning about small towns.
WOW! That’s a pretty cool story
I didn’t see any emails about the stops along the way. I just received emails when someone like a post or my activity. Were the emails the same info as is on the map? Or more detailed?
@JenM - yes! Very detailed and well written...received one when my team (T5) passed the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and one when we passed the SPLC’s Civil Rights Memorial.
Aw glad to learn more about you and your hometown Ashley!!
Wow!! That is so cool, Ashley! Thanks for sharing. I’ve actually been to Wetumpka - I live in Opelika, also seen on the map if you look south a bit. ☺️
@JessieSchweeso how cool! I’m an Auburn grad and actually moved back there for a couple of years when my hubs and I first got married, so I know Opelika very well! And I used to run with the AORTA running group!
Very cool, Ashley, thanks for sharing! The emails are triggered when certain mileposts are passed (and we had a glitch with one - ha, why we are doing a test run!)
How freaking cool! Thanks for sharing!
                    Love this!! Thanks for sharing!

Who has figured out how many hours you have to spend shopping (online) to equal a mile?!
                    Great question
Ha ha Sally and I were talking out that. I might have to test it out..you know for research 😂

Welcome to The Primary Run. This 224 mile team relay is a warm up event for the Womxn Run the Vote Relay Challenge which will take place in September. This virtual course takes runners on an empowering journey from Selma to Atlanta, 224 miles in total. Along the route, you will travel on the US Civil Rights Trail and follow in the footsteps of generations of activists.

Designed to be accessible for as many people as possible, this event allows you to run, walk, ride (or any of 80 other activities) and then log your activity and see yourself move on our map and leaderboards. You will be able to see a Google street view of your virtual locale and then cheer your real fellow teammates in the chat. Learn more about the activists and change makers that helped shape the modern civil rights movement with our interactive maps.

We have designed this preview event for our Ambassadors only, so please do not share this URL publicly. We have also created some guidelines for logging activities:
                      1. We rely on the honor system... you will not need to provide GPS tracks.
                      2. No step counting, please use intentional miles
                      3. We have this event set up for running/walking primarily and employ an activity converter for 80 different activities, so you can log all of your exercise. (NOTE: miles on a racer's personal log are for all races they are in, across all sports)
                      4. Please attribute your activity to the appropriate day -- don't combine workouts from multiple days.
                      5. Please only backdate logs for a race up to two weeks in the past.
                      6. Activities submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
