    From May 3 - May 17, 2021, join Fidos For Freedom as we spread awareness and raise money to continue our mission of providing specially trained service dogs to veterans and other individuals with disabilities.

    Recently, Hearing Dog, Noah had back surgery. His surgery, medications, and rehab cost $10,000. 

    Noah was injured during the time he was in training. Recently, Noah was evaluated at VOSM for rehab and it was discovered that the iliopsoas strain was secondary to severe ventral and right-sided protrusion of the L7-S1. Causing nerve root compression and disc protrusion. Noah had surgery on March 30. He is expected to make a full recovery and continue as a full-time hearing dog for his partner, Diane. Noah alerts Diane to many things in her environment that she doesn’t hear. He wakes her every morning to the rooster alarm on her phone, lets her know when someone is knocking at her door when her name is called at the Dr’s office. 

    The injury is considered a pre-existing condition which isn't covered by insurance. Fidos provides all care for puppies and service dogs for their first three to four years. For this reason, 100% of the money raised from Fidos' Doggy Dash Virtual Event will go to cover the cost of Noah's surgery, treatment, and medication. 

    Every dollar we raise puts Fidos closer to a step closer to paying for this unexpected problem.

    Thank you in advance for joining us in the "Dash" to cover the cost of the surgery, physical therapy, and rehab that is required for Noah to return to full health.

    HOW DO I JOIN?


    1. Click "JOIN NOW!" at the top of the page.

    2. Fill in the required information and pay the one-time $8 registration fee.

    3. Share your page digital race bib with family and friends and on social media. Invite your friends to join the race or make a donation. 

    4. Join a #{groups} to track friends, teammates, and your standings on the leaderboards. Watch this video about using Racery groups. (Groups will play a big role in awarding incentives! More info to come.)


    HOW DO I "RACE"?


    1. Perform the activity of your choice.

    2. Log your activity and see your avatar move across the route. Watch this video on how to log activities.

    3. Only log intentional exercise, please. (Walking for 10 minutes - intentional. The 5,000 steps you get every day while doing daily activities - not intentional.)

    4. Attribute your exercise to the appropriate day—don't combine workouts from multiple days.

    5. We rely on the honor system. You don't have to use a device to prove your miles, a good map or watch suffices.

    6. Cheer on your real fellow racers and teammates! Share your bib on social media! Brag about your streaks or longest mileage! Invite people to your page so they can make a donation.


    IMPORTANT TIPS


    1. Watch this video of Racery pro tips.

    2. Complete your bio.

    3. Update your passcode in settings to simplify login.

    4. Activity conversions exist to try to keep the playing field level. Conversions are based on effort. (i.e. 1-hour cycling = ~1-hour swimming = ~1-hour tennis. For all activities except running/walking, please log activity minutes, not miles.)

    5. To delete a log, click its gear on the right.

    6. Don’t like one type of email? Unsubscribe at the bottom of that email.

    7. If you post on social media, please include #raceryapp so we can find you!

    8. Activities submitted after May 17 will not count toward race leaderboards.


    THE FUN STUFF!
    As you log your activities, your avatar will move along the race route. You can see Google Street View of every "stop" you make.

    Take pictures and videos of yourself racing and upload them when you log activities.

    When you post to social media, be sure to include @fidosforfreedom and #fidosforfreedom so we see them. If we see really creative or funny posts, we may share them. Watch this video at the starting line of a race.

    Write messages on the message board using @{racer's name} to tag someone. They'll get an email stating they have a new message.

    Everyone who registers will receive a gift as a thank you from Fidos. Because of some amazing sponsors, we'll also have fantastic prizes! Stay tuned for more info on that in the next week or two.
