MA.ME.MD.Walker 7h ago3.6 miles3.58 miles of running/Walking = 3.58 milesWalked to the parking lot of my church, lots of walking in the parking lot and then home. Spent 2 1/5 hours sorting food that the local university kids left behind. We have 3 different nonprofits that get the food that is good. Later on we will sort household goods and clothes. That stuff will be sold at a huge yard sale and the money raised will be donated to another nonprofit. All this stuff used to just go to a landfill. On my way home I saw 14 rabbits and 1 woodchuck.

- From: Acadia
- To: Katahdin
- Start date: January 1, 2022
- End date: June 30, 2022
- 0:00 EST
- 23:59 EST
- Route distance: 271.8 miles
- Total logged: 28,406.2 miles
Take a tour from Hawaii Volcanoes to Crater Lake in Oregon, from Bears Ears in Utah to the Badlands in South Dakota, in this special 2022 edition of the Acadia to Katahdin Virtual Race. You'll even have a chance to land on the very spot where Forrest Gump ended his epic cross-country run.
As all roads should start and lead to Maine, you can see the sun rise on Cadillac or Mars Hill, then have a virtual out-of-this world experience by passing through the Maine Solar System Model, with a finish atop mighty Katahdin.
Earn a medal (or two) with custom satin ribbons - one that features the 26 peaks of Acadia and the 3 peaks in Baxter State Park on the Appalachian Mountain Club's New England Four Thousand Footers List, or a "Maine STRONG" medal featuring lobster, moose, I LOVE Friends of Acadia or I LOVE Millinocket Memorial Library on its ribbon.
See full-size images of medal and ribbon options at the top of the page here. Or you can scroll down to see small images below.
Help raise funds for Acadia National Park and Millinocket, the gateway to Baxter State Park, home to Katahdin, Maine's highest mountain.
Start atop Cadillac, the first place to see the sun rise in the USA between Oct. 7 and March 6, and virtually climb all 26 peaks of Acadia on Mount Desert Island.
Then hop on over for an ultra-marathon (more than 26.2 miles) in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, Bears Ears National Monument in Utah - this segment ends at the very spot where Forrest Gump stopped running - and Badlands National Park.
Head back to Maine, where you can be the first to see the sun rise in the USA between March 25 and Sept. 13 atop Mars Hill (all those Cadillac sunrise watchers during peak Acadia visitation in the summer are NOT the first).
Then pass some of the planets in the Maine Solar System Model, the largest scale model of the solar system in the Western Hemisphere, as you head toward the "sun" at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
In the final two segments, run the Millinocket Marathon and Half and scale the 3 Baxter peaks on the AMC's New England Four Thousand Footer list, ending the 271.8-mile virtual race course on Katahdin.
(This virtual race is not officially affiliated with any real-life races other than having previously been the virtual edition of the Maine Sea to Summit Series co-sponsored by acadiaonmymind.com and runmdi.org. And it is not officially affiliated with any national parks, other than helping to support Friends of Acadia, a partner of Acadia National Park.)
Wherever you are in the world, you can participate virtually by running or walking and logging your miles. Plus there is a dropdown calculator that allows you to convert minutes spent bicycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, doing calisthenics and other activities to a running-walking mileage equivalent.
Watch your avatar move along on a map from Acadia to Katahdin, criss-crossing the country, jumping from segment to segment. Get pop-up Google Street Views where available as you land on spots along the virtual race map. Invite family and friends to join no matter where they are - a perfect way to keep up in these still-pandemic times.
You have 181 days, until 11:59 PM EST on June 30, 2022, to complete the segments. You can backdate miles to Jan. 1, 2022, but log them one day at a time chronologically to get the maximum virtual race experience.
To ensure you cross the finish line and to take into account any mileage rounding issues, be sure to log a few extra tenths of a mile. And if you opted in for special finisher's medal(s), they will be mailed upon conclusion of the race.
Everyone is a winner, with final medals mailed soon after June 30, whether you completed the segments by then or not. Mileage from this race and future races will count toward cumulative totals, allowing you to reach special milestones and recognition. Details of the Acadia to Katahdin Virtual Racing Hall of Fame to be announced at acadiaonmymind.com/virtual-races
At least 5% of gross proceeds from the race go to help support Acadia National Park via the nonprofit Friends of Acadia, and Millinocket via the nonprofit Millinocket Memorial Library.
We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:

We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:
- We rely on the honor system... you don't have to use a device to prove your miles -- a good map suffices.
- Please only backdate mileage to the start of this race, or Jan. 1, 2022.
- No step counting, please use intentional miles.
- Walking or running miles are the default activity, with other activities like bicycling in the activity dropdown menu! (NOTE: miles on a racer’s personal log are for all races they are in, over all sports)
- Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day -- don’t combine mileage from multiple days.
- Miles submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
