5.0 miles1.0 Daily Action of wRTV Daily Activations = 5.0 mileMy wife is my gym buddy, so I spoke with her regarding our local environment. We feel our local community does well regarding environmental sustainability, nature conservation, and equitable access. However, we feel like there's not enough being done regarding climate change. The largest contributors to gas emissions are companies. We can try to reduce our impact, but there's so much we can only do without stricter regulations or companies being incentivized to reduce emissions. In the meantime, we can strive to use reusable products, avoid using the car when possible by walking or biking, and purchasing products created with sustainability in mind.

5.0 miles1.0 Daily Action of wRTV Daily Activations = 5.0 mileThe single-use plastics I used today were mostly from restaurants. My soda top and straw were plastic from my lunch and I got an ice cream in a plastic cup. However, I do often try to use reusable containers. My wife and I typically shop at Aldi’s where we use our own reusable bags. When we do go to Target or Meijer, we do reuse the plastic bags once as trash bags, so they are at least double use bags. One item that I could improve on is K-cups. I buy the plastic K-cups instead of using the reusable cup. Great to watch out for all the plastic that I’ve used throughout the day!

5.0 miles1.0 Daily Action of wRTV Daily Activations = 5.0 mileI never knew about the two mayor organizations created to address climate change! These are great resources to work towards a more eco-friendly future. I wrote an email today to the Mayor of St. Charles asking her to join the Climate Mayors Network. I learned that the nearby city of Elgin is apart of the network but not St. Charles.

5.0 miles1.0 Daily Action of wRTV Daily Activations = 5.0 mileThe St. Charles park I visit the most is Mt. St. Mary Park. In fact, I’ve walked through it twice on my way to and from the office today! I searched for a lands acknowledgement from the City of St. Charles but couldn’t find one. I then emailed the two Aldermen on the City Council for my Ward. I encouraged them to consider publishing a lands acknowledgement and the benefits of recognizing those who held the land before us. I found an excellent example from the Art Institute of Illinois that I included in my email to them. I never would have done this without today’s Daily Activation!
