  • LizInTheWoods Oct 13
Logging mileage on the app working just fine again! Good wishes to all running MDI tomorrow!
  • wanderingmaine Oct 13
i tried being on the #moose millinocket team, but got put on lobster...can anyone help?
    3
Just stay on Lobster with us underdogs!
Hi @wanderingmaine - welcome! I can put you on the #moose spreadsheet on this end. But if you want to change the groups field, go to your bio and click on edit. Then in the groups field, type moose WITHOUT the hashtag. And if you want to be counted in the Oct. 1-14 Lobster vs. Moose challenge, just let me know how many miles of the nearly 50 you just put in were from between Oct. 1 and today, and I can add you to the spreadsheet under #moose. Let me know what you think your total mileage between Oct. 1 and Oct. 14 will be, and if you meet that goal, you get an extra entry in the gift giveaways. There will be more 2-week #lobster vs. #moose subchallenges after this first round. (And if you want to be part of the underdog Lobster as @JohnT suggests, you can be on both teams, and I'll split your mileage 50-50.)
@AOMM hello there...just got home a bit ago, from MDI!! so since today is the 14th....all the mileage i gave here was for oct 2 to now. my goal had been minimum 5 miles per day.
  • AOMM Oct 13
Posted latest spreadsheet, 419.1 #lobster miles to 422.9 #moose miles, just before midnight on 10-12. Will #lobster catch up with #moose by Sunday, when real-life and virtual MDI happen? Stay tuned! Welcome to @JillinTX to Team Lobster. Latest spreadsheet on the Facebook group page: https://www.facebook.com/gr...
  • AOMM Oct 12
Good luck to everyone running MDI! If you want to pick up your virtual race medal early, we'll be at Sidestreet Cafe on Sunday soon after 5 p.m. We'll also be putting postcards about the virtual race at the registration table at the pre-race expo, in case you have family or friends who want to run along the route virtually with you!

Day 3 still getting gateway timout error on iPhone and iPad
Hi CaptDave! Can you please let me know which version you have? We're taking a look into this! :) Lesley
@RaceryLesley version of Racery? How do I find that out
Hey there! I think we may have the issue fixed :) Can you please try again? If it doesn't work, my next step will be to see if updating to the newest version of software on your iPhone fixes it for you. We'll get this figured out and thank you for letting us know! Lesley
    @RaceryLesley it worked!! Thank you
@RaceryLesley and @CaptDave and @LizInTheWoods - glad to hear the bug has been fixed, and OK to log miles again.
  • LizInTheWoods Oct 11
Still unable to post mileage via the app...says “gateway timeout”.
Getting same message last 2 days
Thanks for the head's up, @LizInTheWoods and @CaptDave. Have let racery know. You can also try logging miles on Web site instead of the app, or using a different device - laptop vs. iPhone vs desktop. I've been using a Microsoft Surface, and haven't had issue.
  • AOMM Oct 11
As of this morning, spreadsheet shows #moose ahead at 368.6 miles vs. #lobster miles of 338.4. This is Round #1, and perhaps we will have 5 rounds by time Dec. 8 rolls around. Best of 5, kind of like first round of MLB playoffs. See spreadsheet on Facebook group page, and let me know if any miles missing. https://www.facebook.com/gr...
    1
i tried joining the #moose team, but it shows me as lobster...can you fix that by any chance?
  • CaptDave Oct 10
I’ve been unable to post mileage tonight. Some kind of connection problem. Not sure if it is on my end or app but figured I should let you know
    2
Did you try this morning? And if it still doesn't work, let me know how you're trying to log the miles - on laptop, via iPhone or what have you - and I can e-mail racery.
@AOMM. Tried again today from both iPhone and iPad. Getting same “gateway timed out” error message. Thanks
  • AOMM Oct 10
As of lunchtime today, spreadsheet shows #moose ahead 344.4 miles vs. #lobster miles of 309. See spreadsheet snapshots at Facebook group page, and feel free to let me know if any miles missing, or if anyone has any questions about the moose v. lobster challenge. https://www.facebook.com/gr...

Welcome to @KDDID and @FL2ME to team #lobster. This morning's tally has #moose at 316.9 miles and #lobster at 269.9 miles. Updated spreadsheet being added to Facebook group page: https://www.facebook.com/gr...

And members of Team #lobster - if you want to join the Racery group by that name, all you have to do is go to your bio and edit it, and then in the groups field type lobster - without the hashtag. Here are the members of #lobster so far: @ZombieChop @Shellperry @JakeD @CindyLouWho @LizInTheWoods @bgizzi @sarahJSG @LibertyPenguin @BigRed68 and @JohnT . The Racery group adds all your miles from July 20, so that's why I do the separate spreadsheets for the Oct. 1-14 challenge. And if you're also in the #moose group, you'll just show up twice.

OK members of Team #moose - if you want to join the Racery group by that name, all you have to do is go to your bio and edit it, and then in the groups field type moose - without the hashtag. @JillMarie63 is already in, and here are names of the other members so far: @JABandMom @JakeD @KDW @Swollenknee @4000footer @mak321 @LibertyPenguin @Dear @KPS and @BigRed68 . The Racery group adds all your miles from July 20, so that's why I do the separate spreadsheets for the Oct. 1-14 challenge. And if you're also in the #lobster group, you'll just show up twice.

#moose pulled even further ahead as of end of day yesterday. #lobster needs those real-life miles from MDI next Sunday to catch up. 206.1 miles to 135.1 miles, #moose to #lobster. See updated spreadsheets at Facebook group page: https://www.facebook.com/gr...
Hmm. Maybe I should join Team Lobster. All I do is add the hashtag? Do I have to do it on every run? Can I count runs back to October 1?
I can add your mileage to October 1 for #lobster and update the spreadsheet. Next entry that you make, just type #lobster Virtual MDI plus however many miles you think you will personally do between Oct. 1 and Oct. 14. If you hit that mileage goal, another extra entry in the giveaway for you! I'll be inviting everyone who's picked a team to a couple of new groups I'm forming, #lobster and #moose. But because the racery groups lump all team members' mileage back to July 20, I'm doing the Lobster vs. Moose spreadsheets so we can keep track of team and personal totals for the Oct. 1-14 period (Round 1, with more rounds to come - think the next round will include Halloween, in honor of SK).
@JohnT - just tallied your miles back to Oct. 2 - didn't see an entry for Oct. 1 - and it's 47 miles - including today's 6.2. If there's anything missing, let me know how much and what day. You know how to look at your own race log to see your daily entries, right? That's how I tallied all your miles. You might singlehandedly help get #lobster back in the running, making honorary coach Gary Allen proud!
Awesome! I figured I might be able to help make it competitive
  • AOMM Oct 6
Just put up snapshots of Team lobster vs. moose spreadsheets on the Facebook group page, and moose is ahead as of this morning by a virtual antler: https://www.facebook.com/gr... Also, I'll be inviting those of you who have signed up for the teams to join the groups that I will be creating by those names. Because the racery groups lump everyone's miles from day 1 (July 20) into the team total, I had to create spreadsheets to tally up the Oct. 1 - 14 team and individual miles separately, for Round #1 of lobster vs. moose, that runs through Oct. 14. Not too late to join in if you haven't already. All you have to do is type in your racery log "#lobster Virtual MDI 26.2" or "#moose Virtual Millinocket 26.2" (or however many miles you aim to do between Oct. 1-14), and I'll add your miles to the team spreadsheet. If you meet your 2-week goal, you get an extra entry into the gift giveaways.

Hi everyone- Our Cross Country team at Vermont Technical College is doing one of these races as a fundraiser and we are trying to get as many people as possible to participate. The money we raise will help us pay for our trip to nationals in Virginia. If anyone is interested, the link is below: https://vtcxc.racery.com/r/... . Thank You!

Neat, another racery race! Will check it out - although not sure if we can do 2 racery races at once?
Hey @MattK - if people just wanted to make a straight donation to the Cross Country Team without necessarily signing up for a virtual race, is there a Web site or address for that?

@Ghost and @BigRed68 - does a moose feature prominently in any of SK's writings? Just curious, as I'm looking at the virtual moosehead on the course map, created by the jaunt over to Schoodic and back, along part of DEST and Route 1.
The novel "Dreamcatcher" centers around a group of guys hunting at a cabin in the woods. I think they were hunting deer not moose but I'd have to go back and check. It's beem awhile since I read it
Had to Google that one since nothing immediately came to mind. No actual moose that I know of (King seems to only use wild animals that can be sinister--crows, wolves, weasels, etc.). There is a Moose Sadler who is one of the bullies in IT, and a Moose Cove and Moose-Lookit Island in The Colorado Kid (the book loosely adapted into the tv show Haven). That's as close as I could find.
    Thanks @BigRed68 and @Ghost !

For clarity what activities are allowed in this virtual race?
    2
Generally running, hiking or walking, but as it is a virtual race, rules are flexible. If you do a different workout, but feel it's the equivalent in calories burned to 1 mile walking, then that would be OK to log a mile in our book. Each of us may have different motivations, and may personally feel right about logging some types of miles, and not others. Not hard and fast. Hope that helps!
A rule of thumb that may be helpful: 30 minutes of intentional activity = 1 mile (or if it's a really super-aerobic activity, then perhaps 15 to 20 minutes = 1 mile). Not sure step-counting around the house or the office would count though, as that doesn't seem intentional. And biking 10 miles probably doesn't translate to walking or running 10 miles.
  • AOMM Aug 15
Just added digital-only registration option for virtual racers (no medal), for people who don't want any bling. If any of you already in the race decide you want to do the digital-only option, you can email me at acadiaonmymind@gmail.com. And if you have any family or friends who might have been on the fence about the race, feel free to let them know about the digital-only option, listed on the registration page. The more the merrier!

For those of you who track your elevation, just discovered a way to post here on Racery, see https://racery.com/faq/#Q6 I track the elevation of my runs -- is there a place for me to track that with Racery? Start adding elevation gains to your mileage submissions in a comment by putting "+" in front of the number of feet you’ve gained. If enough people use the +, we’ll start tracking elevation and giving awards!
    2
And this answers how to delete incorrect mileage and reenter: https://racery.com/faq/#Q7
Actually, not sure if this FAQ about deleting miles works. Best to enter it correctly, or adjust for it with subsequent entries, or email team@racery.com. Hopefully the FAQ about entering elevation works, if you're so inclined (pun not intended haha!)

@Keefa - running Great Cranberry 100 today? Good luck - and to any other virtual runner doing 100 miles in one fell swoop, on a small island off the coast of Mount Desert Island. Those 100 miles will put you near the front of the race - watch out @Ghost ! See the Facebook group post about this at https://www.facebook.com/gr...
Haha - I see GCI 100 isn't until next weekend - so I wish you luck next weekend, @Keefa !
    Good luck @Keefa !
@AOMM @JohnT thank you it is going to be interesting. Not sure how the road will do but maybe better than a mountain. Well faster. Cannot wait though!
@Keefa - say hello to @DreadedRunner (Rebeccah Geib), as she's another person signed up for GCI 100. So great to see your progress with all the running!
@AOMM will do. She will probably kill this race like she did the virtual race last year! Thank you also. This will be another attempt at 100 miler. This will be a different creature though since it is road with hills and not mountains. Although hills always make it a challenge no matter how big or small!

@Keefa @JohnT well be doing the 5k later today for VT100, ive got my Run 2 Respond tank on if you're there!
@Lishie @JohnT I will not be up to sometime tomorrow. I might be there early, then doing the Goshon Gallop and will be back after that. @Lishie good luck with the 5K!
@Keefa I won’t be there until tomorrow either. Good luck! We will be wearing T-shirt’s that say Beard Maintenance Crew and then of course running gear when I’m pacing.
@Lishie @JohnT. Actually I am not crewing but actually more spectating. I am going up with a friend and there friend is running it. I will be back up there around night time because I am running the Goshon Gallop first. Also, if anyone needs anything feel free to let me know. Or if a runner needs a very slow pacer, I would also be up for that.
Sorry posted about Goshon Gallop twice. It has been a long week. lol
@Keefa Another one of my friends who is running might need a pacer. About how slow are you talking? He is a 27 - 28 hour finisher
@JohnT on trails I might be around 18 mintues per mile. Depending on the location and how steep it is and how many miles. But would like to help.
@Keefa my friend Charles “Chad” Joyal is definitely looking for a pacer for any part of the last 30 miles. He will probably be at Camp 10 Bear around sunset.
@Keefa Chad’s number is ‭(413) 310-4727‬. Call him if you are interested.
@Keefa FYI. I told him you might be available and he was interested in having you pace
@JohnT I did leave your friend a message but if he does not get it my number is 978-376-2494. Also I have not paced before I forgot to tell him. But willing to help out
@Keefa Service is spotty up there. Thanks
Yes I will be pacing chad. So will be at camp 10 sometime around 10

Start on top of Cadillac in Acadia, the highest point on the US Atlantic coast, and the first place in the US to see the sunrise between October 7 and March 6.

Then run the Mount Desert Island Marathon and Half Marathon route, and head north for the Millinocket Marathon and Half route.

Finish atop Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine and the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.

Wherever you are in the world, you can participate virtually by running or walking and logging your miles. Watch your avatar move along on a map from Cadillac to Katahdin, including the routes of the MDI and Millinocket Marathon and Half Marathon, the 26 peaks of Acadia and other special sites along the way.

You have until December 8 to complete the route. To ensure you cross the finish line and to take into account any mileage rounding issues, be sure to log a few extra tenths of a mile. Registration ends December 8 and your special finisher's medal(s) will be mailed within 3-4 weeks after the end of the race, if not sooner.

Special pricing for registrants in the real-life 2018 MDI and Millinocket Marathon and Half Marathon. We will cross reference the real-life entrants' list and if runners don't appear then the virtual fee will be forfeited. Option to add on a special buffalo-plaid beribboned medal from the previous version of the race, when it was called the Cadillac to Katahdin Virtual Run.

At least 5% of gross proceeds from the race go to help support Acadia National Park via the nonprofit Friends of Acadia, and Millinocket via the nonprofit Our Katahdin and Millinocket Memorial Library. Brought to you by acadiaonmymind.com and runmdi.org.

We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:
  • • We rely on the honor system... you don't have to use a device to prove your miles -- a good map suffices.

  • • Please only backdate mileage to July 20

  • • No step counting, please use intentional miles.

  • • Only walking or running miles please! (NOTE: miles on a racer’s personal log are for all races they are in, over all sports)

  • • Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day -- don’t combine mileage from multiple days.

  • • Miles submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
