One of the things I saw on my morning run on carriage road around Witch Hole Pond (full trip report to be added to the Facebook group page shortly): Protection zone for turtles. Didn't sign up for the Acadia Half Marathon that's being run today (saw a snapping turtle cross the Park Loop Road once when I ran that half), but did do at least a quarter marathon around Acadia and watched for turtles crossing the carriage road. #hipster also saw a runner wearing a 2017 MDI Marathon and Half shirt at around 7:30 a.m. near the Paradise Hill turnoff. Thought it would be rude to yell out CAW to a stranger, so just said, yeah, run MDI! Too bad I forgot to wear my "Hello My Name is AOMM!" sign, as a few other runners ran by me. AOMM is as slow as a turtle, but the key is to keep moving along.
7th Longest personal run of this race.
      @AOMM , we turtles finish!
@FL2ME - yes we do, slowly but surely!
I was running the Acadia half! You totally could have shouted out a CAW. Even though I'm not an official Crow, I would have gotten it!

Morning birding at Valley Cove and Flying Mountain, and then afternoon birding at Wonderland and Sieur de Monts. Saw or heard peregrine falcon, bald eagle, song sparrow, black-throated green warbler, yellow-rumped warbler, a raft of black scoters, cedar waxwings, barred owl and 4 owlets. First time ever joined the Acadia Birding Festival, and learned a lot, even about plants. Saw pink lady's slippers at Wonderland - never knew they were there.
       Extends streak to 9 days.
Photo is at a new beach access for Valley Cove, where you may be able to spot the 3 peregrine falcon chicks just banded by the park - if you have the right magnification. #hipster needs more magnification.
You really know how to pick the best week to visit the park!!
@Grin - accuweather originally predicted rain some days, but so glad it was, as we like to call it, inaccuweather. Hope you've been out enjoying the fine weather too!

Looped up Penobscot on a fine day in Acadia. First to Cobblestone Bridge via Jordan Stream Path, then along carriage roads to historic part of Penobscot Mountain Trail. #hipster

Written in the sands of Sand Beach. Did 1.7 miles on Sand Beach and Great Head, and 1.8 miles to Gorham and back. Spectacular day in Acadia!
Two-fer for today, afternoon hikes on top of early morning run. #hipster

6th Longest personal run of this race this month.  Extends streak to 6 days.
Inspired by @Coastwalker and @JohnT - got out the door before 6 a.m. #hipster thanks you both.

A new low-tide walk we discovered, Timber Point in Biddeford Pool, a relatively new acquisition by the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Great place for kayaking, tidepooling and learning about the birds and the bees (literally).
6th Longest personal run of this race this month.

Trying to catch up on my Racery entry. More fun to enter the day of, so it's in the line-up more quickly. Plus then you don't run the risk of forgetting when you did what! #hipster tip of the day.

Up and down a couple of hills, and over to town for a couple of margaritas, nachos and enchiladas, to watch the start of the Celtics-Cavs series. Yes, there is still some snow on the ski mountain.
3rd Longest personal run of this race this month.

#hipster calisthenics before coffee this morning. Too chilly to walk in Boston this evening, as the chill fog rolled in.

Yes, that is still a patch of snow on the right. Forest road still closed until mud season is over, so no cars to worry about.
Did you do any skiing in May?
@mdijim - No, April 8 was last day of cross-country skiing, although might have veen able to do it the following weekend instead of snowshoeing. Much snow left where you're trekking?
Very little. Just tiny bits in very shady spots.

Feel a hint of summer, running on the road and along abandoned lumbering road.
    • Keefa May 5, 2018

The Ralph Waldo Emerson Trail race. Did a little back tracking and was able to bring in 8 miles. A nice sunny run and not too muddy and rainy compared to Sleepyhollow. I got to meet @TomZot before the race! #lumberjack
       7th Longest personal run.
Historic - a meeting of @Keefa and @TomZot - so exciting! Did you know each other before? And if not, how did you recognize each other? Curious #hipster wants to know!
@AOMM I noticed his "How Was Your Run Today" podcast t-shirt and we started chatting about it. We introduced ourselves and he said, "wait...are you on Cadillac to Katahdin?"
Warms my heart to hear how 2 virtual racers met!
@TomZot @AOMM when Tom mentioned my shirt I thought it was him from his picture!

One year ago this month I was diagnosed with cancer...by Dec. I had logged 100 miles of outside intentional walking in this race and today I finished the 200 mile goal on the roads of Hancock Point and on the shore of Frenchman’s Bay. The medal is pictured #hipster style (new funky hair and all) with Cadillac in the background!! Once again thank you to all my virtual friends for the smiles and encouragement along the way!! Hopefully I will post a pic with Katahdin in 2 days...
       Finished in 120th place.
      Congratulations!
Awesome job finishing. You did a great job pushing yourself and making the 200 miles on your journey!
Congratulations! I am so happy for you, and so glad to have met you in person!
Kudos! That is such a tremendous photo to mark your accomplishment. More than anything, thanks so much for the inspiring comments and leadership.
So glad we could be on the virtual journey with you! A beautiful May Day indeed. If you're going up to Millinocket, and if @mak321 happens to be volunteering at the library that day, perhaps you 2 virtual runners can meet.
Congratulations on all your wins! It has been motivating to watch your progress and your determination. Stay strong and healthy and keep on walking!
Congrats on your virtual and real accomplishments! You have inspired me on our virtual walk. My sister-in-law survived endometrial cancer in recent years, and my husband is fighting esophageal cancer now. He is continuing to work out and I believe it is helpful in so many ways. If you do make your real-life way to Millinocket, please do try to look me up! Send a message from here, and we can make it happen. Best wishes for continued good health.
@mak321 we are headed to Presque Isle to help with the circus so do not believe that I will have a chance to stop by. Hoping for my Katahdin pic from the highway. Let’s put a meeting in person on a future radar. Meanwhile my best to your sister-in-law....and to your husband, onward and upward!!!! Virtual hugs to all!
It's a great day for a drive. Virtual hugs back!

So much inspiration in your story! Walking your way to health is the best way to travel. I’ll be very near you so if you ever want walking company, leave me a message. We come up toward the end of May. I would love to log a few miles with a #hipster 😊.

Toeing the Pipeline, with a view of the Tripyramids, on the latest snowshoe, ever. Ran into another late-season snow fanatic, a cross-country skiier, making us think we should try taking out the skis tomorrow, for the latest cross-country ski, ever.
5th Longest personal run of this race this month.
Wonderful! From what I saw on Cadillac in 60-degree sunshine, you might be able to extend to May in NH.
Bagged out of snowsports today, but if any snow next weekend, maybe worth looking for the last patch of snow just to be able to say we snowshoed it. Not quite May yet next weekend, but close enough! Sounds like you're doing some serious training for your hut to hut trip. Hope not too much snow left by the time you hit the Whites.

Update: Celtics lose by 24, but grand slam No. 5 on year for team puts Sox up late in game.
Wonderful. Always wanted to snowshoe in April, only did it once.

Hope the comment wasn't the reason for your getting up "late" the other morning?
@AOMM No - just 2 long meetings the afternoon/evening before

Short walk in Boston, then hit the treadmill at home for a few short intervals. Too late and tired to do more than this today. Hope to be well rested tomorrow, and out of work early, to log the remaining miles to make it 200 since Jan. 1.
       Extends streak to 7 days.

What a way to cap the official end of the cross-country ski season - up to the top of Snows Mountain, with a view of Osceola in the background. About 12 more miles to be logged between now and 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, to get in my 200 miles since start of the year, to make it official. That will mean 2nd circuit of 200 miles, Cadillac to Katahdin, completed in the first 100 days of 2018. This virtual race keeps going until June 30. That's 81 days, April 11 through June 30. Can we do another 200 miles in 81 days? Everyone who's signed up for a buffalo plaid beribboned medal will be getting theirs in the mail this week. And if you haven't signed up for one yet, tag me in the messageboard, and I can privately message you the details. Portion of additional medals continue to support Acadia and Millinocket.
Longest personal run of this race this month.  Ran 26.2 miles (+0.4 miles) in 8 days a PR.
Can #hipster AOMM do the next 26.2 miles in 7 days or less?
WOW! you don't fool around. Good going. I'll be hiking hut to hut in the Whites in June.
